About test networks in Yoroi

1. What is the Preprod Network in Yoroi Wallet?

Yoroi Wallet offers a testnet environment known as the Preprod network. This feature allows users and developers to test products and environments safely, without the risk of using real ADA on the mainnet. The Preprod network is a simulated environment where you can carry out testing and experimentation without involving real funds.

2. What’s the difference between the mainnet and the testnet (preprod)?

  • Mainnet: The live, real network where actual transactions occur, and ADA holds real-world value.
  • Testnet (Preprod): A sandbox environment where transactions and coins (TADA) have no real value. The testnet is used for experimentation and testing features without the risk of losing real funds.

3. What are the key features of testnet coins (TADA)?

  • No real value: Test ADA (TADA) has no monetary worth and cannot be traded or exchanged for real ADA.
  • Separate from mainnet: Test ADA is distinct from your main wallet, and it cannot be sent to or from the mainnet.
  • Safe testing environment: It provides an isolated space for testing smart contracts, dApps, and other features without the risk of losing real funds.

4. How do I switch to the preprod network in Yoroi Wallet?

  • On the mobile app: Open your wallet, then go to Menu > Settings > Application > Network. Select Preprod from the available network options.
  • On the browser extension: Go to Settings > General, scroll down to the bottom of the page, click "Switch network", select Preprod, and click "Apply".

5. How can I get test ADA (TADA) on the preprod network?

Once you're connected to the preprod network, go to the Receive page in your test wallet and copy your test wallet address (it should start with _addr_test1..._). Then, visit a Cardano Faucet to request test ADA (TADA). Make sure to select Preprod Testnet from the Environment dropdown.

6. How do I return to the mainnet?

On both mobile and extension, you can click on the “Preprod” network badge to switch back to mainnet. Other options are:

  • On the mobile app: Go to Menu > Settings > Application > Network and change the network to Mainnet. Alternatively, you can close the app and reopen it - this will automatically switch back to the mainnet.
  • On the browser extension: Go to Settings > General, scroll to the bottom of the page, click "Switch network", select Mainnet, and click "Apply".

Tip: Always double-check which network you're on before making any transactions to ensure you're not interacting with real funds by mistake.
